SHAH ALAM, Aug 22 – Selangor ruler, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, officially launched the Avisena Women’s and Children’s Specialist Hospital in Seksyen 14 today.
During the ceremony, he passed a mock cheque for RM25,000 from the hospital to the parents of a five-year-old boy and 10-month-old girl to undergo laparoscopic inguinal hernia and cleft palate repair respectively.
He also passed a contribution of RM5,000 from the hospital to the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM).
Accompanying him was Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, and together they spent an hour touring the hospital and an Avisena exhibition.
Economic Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, and Selangor Menteri Besar, Amirudin Shari, also attended the ceremony.
The 19-storey boutique hospital which has been in operation since May 6 comes with 133 beds and is served by 25 resident doctors, 36 specialists and 309 other staffers.
Facilities include a premium waiting lounge, child development centre, fertility centre, a theatre for children and much more.
During his speech, Avisena Group president and chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Omar Abd Hamid, said this biggest hospital in the country for women and children is equipped with the latest medical tools and technology, adding: “Among our specialities are fetomaternal medicine, urogynaecology, neonatology, paediatric cardiology, paediatric surgery, paediatric orthopaedics, comprehensive dental service and more.
“This is Avisena Group’s second hospital in Shah Alam after the Avisena Specialist Hospital which was opened more than 11 years ago.”
He said another 140 beds will be added to the first hospital to attract medical tourists from Australia, Indonesia and the Middle-East especially.
Besides this, Dr Omar said the group is also considering opening more hospitals in the Klang Valley and other states.
