Intrauterine Insemination(IUI)

This is the easiest form of non-surgical assisted conception treatment. This technique should be used as first line treatment before moving on to other more advanced techniques. The procedure, if done properly, is fairly painless and very similar to a Pap smear test.

Most IUI attempts are successful in the first 3 or 4 tries, especially if the male partner’s semen is healthy.

IUI treatment may be recommended if:

  • Sperm count is low or the sperm are poor movers (poor motility)
  • Sperm are not surviving the journey through the cervical mucus (sometimes mucus can be too thick for the sperm to pass through)
  • Female antibodies attack the sperm
  • The male experiences impotence or premature ejaculation
