DEMC Medical Centre rebranded to Avisena Specialist Hospital

On Wednesday 21 March 2018, DEMC Specialist Hospital (DEMC) unveiled its new name – Avisena Specialist Hospital – and their plans to grow into a national brand.

Among the guests to launch the new brand were YB Dato’ Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad, the Mayor of Shah Alam; Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abd Aziz Mohd Yusof, Chairman of Avisena Specialist Hospital and other key individuals who had been instrumental behind the rebranding.

The 9-storey hospital building currently has 118 beds with 600 staff, including 65 specialists and 10 medical officers.

Changing to meet the needs of the communities

According to the founder and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Dr Omar Abd Hamid, the new name was inspired by Avicenna (Ibn Sina), a Persian polymath who was one of the most significant physicians, astronomers, thinkers and writers of the Islamic Golden Age.

“In addition, the purpose of choosing this name is one of our initial steps to extend our services to other parts of the country. We believe in having a more general name, so as to be well accepted by the public. Our hospital is changing its corporate colours, as well as improving our core culture that is long instilled in all our staff,” he added.

Avisena Specialist Hospital also unveiled the Sutera Lounge. It provides wellness services, round the clock food and beverage services, a comfortable working space, as well as support facilities for patients and other visitors.

“We have been working for more than 20 years on looking after the needs of the communities here in Selangor, and we are now ready to expand. Avisena Healthcare will be a place that people go to for everything from cardiology, hepatobiliary treatment, colorectal surgery and neurosurgery, paediatrics and specialists in the area of women’s medicine among others. We also intend to open new hospitals in other states and expect to see this happening in the next decade,” concluded Dr Omar.

Women and Children’s Centre to open by end 2018

“Our biggest patients segment in the current Avisena Specialist Hospital is 60% women and children. We would like to provide extra attention to the health needs of this segment. It was a challenge for us to find a good location near our current hospital and at the same time, our patients mostly live within the vicinity,” said Nor Hafidah Mustapha, Avisena’s Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications.

The proposed location is 400 metres from the hospital. The Avisena Women and Children’s Hospital has 19 storeys, housing 132 beds, 35 specialist clinics, four surgical rooms and a children’s development centre. Avisena’s services for women would be extended to aesthetic, slimming and spa treatments. Other services offered include plastic surgery and fertility treatment.

“For children, our focus will be on paediatric neurology, cardiology and neonatal medicine. The hospital will also tend to special needs children at its child development centre,” said Dr Omar.

“Although equipped with specialists and various sophisticated medical equipment, the hospital will offer treatment at reasonable prices,” he added.

The Women and Children’s hospital is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
