Avisena Strengthens Orthopaedic, Trauma and Spine Care with OTS Centre of Excellence

SHAH ALAM: Avisena Healthcare has strengthened its specialist healthcare capabilities with the launch of its Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Orthopaedics, Trauma & Spine (OTS), bringing together clinical expertise, surgical capabilities and rehabilitation services across Avisena Specialist Hospital (ASH) and Avisena Specialist Hospital 2 (ASH2).

The OTS CoE provides an integrated care pathway covering consultation, diagnosis, treatment, surgery and rehabilitation, with expertise spanning joint replacement, arthroscopy, fracture and trauma management, sports injuries, spine conditions and onco orthopaedics.

Patient cases under the CoE recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.2 per cent from 2023 to 2026, reflecting continued demand for orthopaedic, trauma and spine services.

Avisena Specialist Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr Razman Abd Karim said the development of OTS comes as Malaysia’s healthcare needs evolve alongside its changing demographic profile, with the population aged 65 and above accounting for 8.0 per cent of the country’s population in the fourth quarter of 2025.

“Malaysia is moving towards an ageing population, bringing changing healthcare needs, including greater demand for services related to mobility, musculoskeletal conditions and trauma.

“This is why we developed the Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedics, Trauma & Spine. We want patients to have access to the right expertise and care pathway from diagnosis through treatment and recovery.

“The CoE brings together specialists and healthcare professionals across different disciplines to provide coordinated care throughout the patient journey.” The multidisciplinary team includes orthopaedic and trauma specialists, emergency physicians, anaesthesiologists, nurses, physiotherapists, rehabilitation professionals, operating theatre teams, radiographers and other healthcare professionals.

The CoE is supported by advanced medical technology, specialised surgical capabilities and integrated rehabilitation services to support patients throughout treatment and recovery.

Dr Razman said the CoE would also place greater emphasis on measuring clinical outcomes as part of Avisena’s approach to clinical excellence.

“Ultimately, what matters is the quality of care and the outcomes we achieve for our patients. As the CoE develops, we will monitor our clinical outcomes and make relevant data available through our website.

“If we are going to call ourselves a Centre of Excellence, we must be prepared to measure ourselves against a standard, and we must be prepared to let others see that measurement.”

The development of OTS reflects Avisena’s continued investment in specialist care across Shah Alam, with multidisciplinary capabilities across Avisena Specialist Hospital and Avisena Specialist Hospital 2, alongside the ongoing development of Tower A and the strengthening of Emergency Department and trauma capabilities.

The launch of the Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedics, Trauma & Spine further strengthens Avisena Healthcare’s specialist services and its integrated approach to patient care.
